Plastic film purges pipe welding problems
Article Abstract:
Water-soluble plastic film can be used as a seal in pipes to allow effective purging prior to welding and it can then be washed away after use. The process has many possible applications in situations where access will be limited after an operation has been performed. It is particularly applicable to welding operations where ineffective purging of oxygen from some metal pipes often affects the quality of the weld due to chemical reactions, coking and uneven penetration.
