Statistical process control: a glimpse at its past and future
Article Abstract:
There is continued debate about statisticians about the theoretical foundations of Walter Shewhart's control charts. However, the practical significant of these charts cannot be denied. The charts are robust, and variations have acted only to extend Shewhart's basic philosophy. The Shewhart chart monitors a process to maintain its stability, while the Box-Jenkins manual adjustment chart is used to adjust a process to approach ideal statistical stability. Both adjustment and monitoring are vital to statistical process control.

Making a decision under uncertain circumstances
Article Abstract:
Many quality engineers have never taken a formal course in how to make decisions under uncertainty. Instruction on how to perform statistical tests of hypotheses, such as or chi-square tests provides a form of decision making under uncertainty.

Metrics for uncertainty
Article Abstract:
Techniques for measuring uncertainty are presented, focusing on the commonly used measurement of odds. An example of applying logOdds to quality is included.
