Surgical robot wields the knife more safely: radical rethinking in machine design has led to the development of the first autonomous surgical robot to operate on human soft tissue
Article Abstract:
A new surgical robot has been developed to perform prostate operations, working only in a 25mm long cone within the site of the prostate gland. The entire robot can be moved in any direction for initial positioning, and the cutting head uses a new type of vaporising electrode instead of a scalpel. A three dimensional computer generated image provides a model of the prostate, generating a sequence of cuts.

Bat processor shows way for robot sensing
Article Abstract:
A bat sonar ultrasonic processor has provided information on bat navigation applicable to robotics. Techniques may be used for tracking and navigation. Keith Maries of company, Ultra Sound Advice has developed a technique for recording bat sonar signals. The varied form and wide frequency range of bat chirps allow more accurate position targeting than advanced radar.

8-legged robot has high tech pedigree
Article Abstract:
An eight-legged robotic device has been developed using pneumatics technology to provide power for the main movements. It has been designed for nuclear work, and its geometry is derived from spiders and crabs. It incorporates 10 16-bit single chip NEC processors and can drag loads of 100kg.
