The ups market and IGBT technology
Article Abstract:
Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems are being used in an increasing number of applications, but demand is greatest in the computer and communications markets. The three main UPS options are line inter-active, true on-line and off-line. Which system to use depends on user requirements, maintenance costs and quality. The application of IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) technology to the latest static designs have given them a clear lead over rotary designs.

Ensuring standby gensets work in harmony
Article Abstract:
Diesel generators used to supply standby power systems have to be synchronised when running in parallel. This critical operation is facilitated by automatic synchronisation systems that have been developed by manufacturers like Petbow. These are safe, fast and accurate and allow for various functions and modes of operation. Petbow's AP 800, for instance, can synchronise up to eight generators for load sharing on a common bus bar.

Independent power: ensuring gensets and their systems are safe. (includes related articles)
Article Abstract:
The increasing interest in independent power generation has meant that contractors have to choose the appropriate control and protective devices. Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) systems are applied where it is vital that the power supply is secure and the choice of systems include on and off-line and rotary. Recent applications of UPS systems are described.
