Universities urged to go with the flow
Article Abstract:
The chairman of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Alan Rudge, believes that industry could supplement universities' funding by as much as 10% which is more than the government would offer but the extra money should be spent on research and improving the flow of information between academia and industry rather than on inventing products for profit. Rudge argues that it is hard to determine the true worth of research because the commercial implications may not be evident until years later.

All systems go
Article Abstract:
The UK's component suppliers report that customer demand for total solutions is altering the way that designers handle suppliers. Many fluid power systems are now a combination of fluid power and electronic components, with suppliers thus having the chance to supply added value with their components. The component supplier is now effectively taking on the role of another subcontractor.
