Vertical business integration strategies for construction

Article Abstract:

The changing conditions affecting architecture/engineering/construction firms requires construction executivess knowledgeable in project level engineering and general company management. In order to deal with increasing competition in the industry, construction companies must use strategic planning. A specific form of competitive strategy is vertical integration. This involves expanding a company's product or service position by combining administrative transactions within the company. A specific model of vertical integration is discussed. Various strategies and forces are discussed.

Global project management - not business as usual

Article Abstract:

Strategies are presented for engineering firms to plan and coordinate international projects. Requisites include the ability to respond efficiently to worldwide customer needs, the utilization of proper and adequate information technology systems, recognition of different time zones, a strong network of suppliers, and the incorporation of local resources and materials.

A long-term strategy for Latin America

Article Abstract:

Strategies are presented for the penetration of Latin American markets by US engineering firms, as developing countries present robust opportunities for infrastructure projects. These include recruiting employees from the host country, creating alliances with host country firms, and emphasizing cross-cultural communication.
