Catchment characterization as a tool for upland water quality management
Article Abstract:
Regression models can be used to develop predictive color hazard maps and color sensitive catchment management policies for water management in the upland catchments of North Yorkshire, UK. The water is discolored due to a decrease in the water table and an increase in anaerobic decomposition of the organic soil layers accompanied by catchment flushing. Heather burning and artificial ditching also contributes to the discoloration of the water. The catchments which contain large amount of organic matter discolor the water in the reserves more than the others.

Modeling the susceptibility of drinking water utilities to form high concentrations of trihalomethanes
Article Abstract:
A logistic regression analysis approach is used to determine the likelihood that Quebec, Canada's water utilities generate hazardous levels of trihalomethanes, or potentially carcinogenic by-products of organic compounds and chlorination. The approach takes into consideration geographical location, type of water treatment, water source and operational parameters.

A river water quality management model for optimising regional wastewater treatment using a genetic algorithm
Article Abstract:
A water quality management model is developed to achieve water quality goals and waste water treatment cost optimization. Four scenarios that do not use the Genetic Algorithm (GA) were proposed and they were compared with the results of the management model using the GA.
