Decision making process in a nonpoint pollution control model
Article Abstract:
A nonpoint pollution control model to check monitoring problems in cases of dispersed pollution is proposed. The model acknowledges the inter-connection between policy makers and economic agents influenced, and aims to promote environmental quality. A tax or subsidy incentive is used to attract polluting firms to an optimal abatement level, which preserves industries' incentives while providing government with additional income. Details of decision making processes by the regulator (government) and agent, a suspected polluter, are discussed.

Alternative pollution standards for regulating nonpoint source pollution
Article Abstract:
The regulation of nonpoint source pollution by controlling inputs and outputs and using adequate management practices is an effective alternative for reducing water pollution. This is illustrated by the use of an agronomic model to calculate yield and effluent production for lettuce farming in California. Analyses of different input combinations of water and nitrogen fertilizer shows that restriction of water is more efficient than regulating the output. This also maintains the required pollution standards.
