Determinants of per capita municipal solid waste generation in the Southeastern United States
Article Abstract:
A predictive model to examine demographic, economic and structural determinants of solid waste generation identifies retail sales and waste disposal fees as the significant factors in per capita waste generation in North Carolina. Retail sales include sales of restaurants, merchandise, food, and clothing stores. Per capita sales of eating establishments make the greatest impact on waste generation. Variables of urbanization, manufacturing, construction and personal income do not correlate significantly to waste production.
