Development and testing of a rapid appraisal wetland condition index in south-eastern Australia
Article Abstract:
Wetlands have been degraded and losses are estimated at 50% of the original world wetland area. Rapid appraisal methods to assess the condition of wetlands and other ecosystems have been developed. The floodplain wetlands of the Murray-Darling Basin in Australia have been severely degraded. A wetland condition index for the Murray-Darling Basin has been developed, based on a rapid field survey approach. It has produced results on wetland condition that are similar to those based on long term ecological data.

Using natural coastal wetlands systems for wastewater treatment: an economic benefit analysis
Article Abstract:
Natural wetlands are a cheap alternative to traditional wastewater treatment and can be maintained at higher quality levels and are more economically viable than traditional technologies or the creation of new wetlands. The natural wetland system can be improved by discharging nutrients and sediment rich wastewater. The saving is around $785-1500 per acre over existing technology.

Wetland ecological and compliance assessments in the San Francisco Bay region, California, USA
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted where 20 compensatory wetland mitigation projects in the San Francisco Bay Region were reviewed and assessed for both permit compliance and function. The efficacy of the assessment method is tested, which, if useful, could be applied to mitigation projects, restoration projects, and natural wetland systems.
