Neonatal growth and survival of rodents in response to variation in maternal dietary nitrogen: Life history strategy vs dietary niche
Article Abstract:
Nitrogen requirements of hispid cotton rats and fulvous harvest mice, small mammals native to the tallgrass prairie of the southern Great Plains, USA were investigated to understand population responses of these species to nitrogen enrichment. It is concluded that life history characteristics and body size constraints rather than dietary niche explain the differential species response to variation in dietary nitrogen.

Infection with cowpox virus decreases female maturation rates in wild populations of woodland rodents
Article Abstract:
The females of the wild population of both 'Clethrionomys glareolus' and 'Apodemus sylvaticus' infected with cowpox virus are likely to delay maturation and therefore reproduction. A study supports the prediction that hosts that develop an acute infection might best optimize their fitness by decreasing current reproduction to maximize the probability of surviving infection.

Effects of seed size of wind-dispersed pines (Pinus) on secondary seed dispersal and the caching behavior of rodents
Article Abstract:
Large size of pine seeds decreases wind-dispersiblity. However, secondary dispersal by scatter-hoarding rodents compensates for this so that total dispersibility of large-seeded pines is not imperiled.
