Wellhead protection area delineation using a coupled GIS and groundwater model
Article Abstract:
The Cheyenne-Arapaho tribe conducted a study of the groundwater resources on the Concho Reserve in Canadian County, OK, to help it delineate and manage wellhead protection areas, as mandated in the Wellhead Protection Program of the US. Using a Geographic Information System database and a groundwater model interface, some 100 private and public water-supply wells in and around Concho Reserve have been delineated. Likely sources of contamination within the delineated wellhead protection area, as well as potential areas for future well sites, were also identified.

Assessment of potential groundwater contamination sources in a wellhead protection area
Article Abstract:
A case study was used to evaluate the efficacy of an environmental impact analysis methodology, using an underground water quality management project in North Carolina as an example. It was found that the methodology's risk scores were significantly affected by hydraulic conductivity and other hydrogeologic variables, suggesting that risk assessors use multiple hydrogeologic parameters to ensure accurate risk assessment.

Regional planning for the siting of local evaporation basins for the disposal of saline irrigation drainage: development and testing of a GIS-based suitability approach
Article Abstract:
Research in Australia's Riverine Plain shows that a geographic information systems method is a suitable means for assessing environmental impacts. The method was weaker for interpolated point data parameters such as hydraulic conductivity and salinity, but it demonstrated higher confidence with more defined parameters such as proximity to urban areas and surface water features.
