Christian Brothers saga nears its final chapter

Heublein Inc, which purchased the Christian Brothers Winery in 1989, may not continue to support the 111-year-old winery if its sales do not improve. The winery's sales of its table wines have been poor, and Heublein is only prepared to invest about six more months of effort in marketing them.

Remy Group fires veteran winemakers
Article Abstract:
Markell of Piper-Sonoma and Levy of Carneros Alambic Distillery were laid off as part of Remy Group Worldwide's reorganization. A Remy spokesman, Bernard La Borie, stated that the layoffs were necessary to cut costs. Piper-Sonoma makes sparkling wine and Carneros makes brandy.

Top executive resigns from Heublein in apparent shake up

Maher's resignation is being attributed to a reported planned merger of Heublein's Fine Wine Group and its less acclaimed Heublein Wines Group, whose president, Mike Cheek, has also resigned. The parent company, Heublein Corp, is said to be attempting to reduce expenses.
