Daily versus weekly: how many iron pills do pregnant women need?
Article Abstract:
The advantage of changing the dosing requirements of supplemental iron pills for pregnant women is a subject of controversy. The World Health Organization is funding research to determine whether weekly regimens can replace daily dosing, a move that is being considered in some countries. Although methodological flaws limit the findings to date, much controversy about compliance, specific iron needs during pregnancy, access to supplements, and food fortification remains.
