Japanese green tea as a cancer preventive in humans
Article Abstract:
Japanese researchers continue to study the health benefits of drinking green tea. Green tea was imported from China in the 12th Century and is now very common. Researchers found that one of the principal tannins in green tea is a compound called (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). There is much evidence that EGCG can prevent carcinogenesis. It inhibits carcinogenesis in skin, stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, lung and breast. Green tea consumption also prolongs the survival of cancer patients.

Dietary carotenoids and certain cancers, heart disease, and age-related macular degeneration: a review of recent research
Article Abstract:
Doctors debate contemporary research on the role of dietary carotenoids in preventing carcinogenesis. Key studies involving the effects of beta-carotene intake on prostate, breast, head and neck cancers have been inconsistent, and little is understood concerning the biochemical mechanisms responsible for protection against disease. Increased research on carotenoid effects on cardiovascular disease and age-related macular degeneration is needed.
