Means to an end: Peter Galassi on the photographic work of Aleksandr Rodchenko
Article Abstract:
Aleksandr Rodchenko began his career in art as a painter and sculptor and later became interested in photography and photographic collage. Photography technology advanced enough by the early 1920s to be relatively simple and portable, and Rodchenko's photography typically used oblique perspectives to provide the illusion of three dimensions while limited to two. Although politically persecuted in the 1930s, Rodchenko's work survived to create a lasting achievement.
