Getting cameras to work in the dark
Article Abstract:
Litton PolyScientific Security Systems official Bruce Glen says there are three types of technologies used for night-time video surveillance, namely, IR illumination, thermal imaging and light or image intensifiers. Products include Litton's NiteMate light intensifier for night time only, the IntelliV for a customer's camera and with day-night 24-hour operation and the IntelliCam night vision camera system with built-in camera for day-night 24-hour operation. An official of one firm says light or image intensifiers often offer better identification through Litton's patented process.

Real-time video capture system
Article Abstract:
A 360 degree video capture system called ParaCamera S-2 is now available in the market. The device, which can be used for security surveillance, Internet Web camera, videoconferencing and detection, features a high- quality video camera and video and power feeds. Undistorted perspective or panoramic video streams in real-time can be produced by linking the unit's video output into a computer with a Matrox frame grabber, and using ParaPlayer 1.0 software.

Retail in the 21st century
Article Abstract:
Studies conducted on the effectiveness of surveillance cameras in retail establishments point to a trend towards a more covert placement for these devices. One of the telling development towards this trend is the development of domed camera housings and smaller, hard-to-spot radio- frequency-based imagers. The trend is expected to have a pronounced impact on the way closed-circuit televesion systems are installed by end-users.
