Latino commerce surges ahead

Latin American businesses are making an immense contribution to the economy of California, and could even be dominating it, according to economic experts. The majority of Latin American businesses are family run in the retail and service industries, but there also signs of involvement in the construction, medical, scientific and technological sectors.

When Mexican President Vicente Fox visited California Governor Gray Davis, the confident Fox was not afraid to discuss controversial topics, and the two leaders spoke of reconciliation between Mexico and California. The visit shows significant progress in healing the wounds left by 1994's anti-illegal immigration intiative, Proposition 187.
