Impeachment
Article Abstract:
The two US senators from California, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, may have to put critical issues in the backburner as the Senate puts President Clinton into trial. Boxer, in particular, is newly elected and her enthusiasm to deal with such concerns as HMO reform and after-school care will almost not certainly be shared by other senators until the impeachment trial is over. While the two senators have deplored the president's misdemeanor, they are still toeing the party line by not directly calling for the removal of Clinton from office.

An energetic Pelosi revs it up
Article Abstract:
It is almost unthinkable that California would not be represented within the top leadership in the Congress, according to San Francisco Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. She is the favourite to be the next Democratic whip, and feels that she is a strong fighter and is ready for this role. On a national level, she has attracted attention for her opinions on China, especially her strongly negative views about China's political leaders and about the US's open trade policy with China.
