Joint provision of public goods: the consolidation of school districts
Article Abstract:
The factors that promote the provision of joint public services at the local level are examined. Using Ohio metropolitan school districts as a reference point, it is demonstrated that size and property valuation factors play a key role in encouraging neighboring entities to provide joint services. It is also shown that smaller political entities tend to cooperate with larger communities, whereas medium-sized communities and property-laden entities usually remain independent. Racial composition, however, is shown to have no impact on the decision of the authorities to create joint school districts.

The productivity of schools and other local public goods producers
Article Abstract:
A model of productivity that focuses on how providers of local public goods are enabled by imperfect information to take rent was developed. Information were shown to have been structured with the presence of an agency problem between a jurisdiction's residents and their provider of local public goods. A social planner who tries to handle productivity in this context is required to be involved in costly information gathering.
