Lieutenant Governor
Article Abstract:
Democrat Cruz Bustamante won the election for California's Lieutenant Governor with a 53% to 39% margin over Republican Tim Leslie. Bustamante projected a moderate image in addition to a consistent message and a hispanic heritage. Bustamante was also better financed with campaign funds which totalled $1.4 million compared to Leslie's $700,000. On the issues, Bustamante focused on the improvement of education and job creation. Leslie had the same stand on education and job creation, but his views on abortion and gay rights did not elicit the support of middle-leaning voters.

Will gambling save the county fair?
Article Abstract:
The new state budget plans to cut its spending on fairs, as its focus has shifted to education, public safety, and health and welfare. Losing money and support from the state, the country fairs rely on gambling to pay off their bills. As a result, roster of fairs have gone up from eight to 81. The communities in rural area which depend on fairs to fund scholarships and welfare programs will suffer most from this budget cutting.
