Suppes-Sen dominance, generalised Lorenz dominance and the welfare economics of competitive equilibrium: some examples
Article Abstract:
Two quasi-orderings are studied in the context of a general equilibrium model with identical consumers, a model of an artisan economy and an education model. Suppes-Sen dominance among utility vectors of individuals induced the first quasi-ordering, while generalized Lorenz dominance gave rise to the second. Results show that Pareto-efficient competitive equilibria may or may not be Suppes-Sen/generalized Lorenz optima. Such information is significant in welfare analysis.

A computable general equilibrium model of intergovernmental aid
Article Abstract:
A simple version of a calibrated computable general equilibrium model of intergovernmental relations facilitates an onerous comparative analysis of state and national grant programs since it allows these to be investigated in the context of a single general equilibrium model. The model shows the short- and long-run tradeoffs involved in grant programs and identifies the long-run consequences intrinsic in any federal general equilibrium system.

The incidence of agricultural policies
Article Abstract:
The effect of farm policies on farmers' well-being and performance is analyzed. A general-equilibrium model is used as a basis for finding out whether tax policies that transfer income to farmers and supply policies such as production incentives are ultimately beneficial. Results show that such agricultural policies fall short of their goals. Tax policy is often inefficient and subsidy programs are quite expensive.
