Legacy Portland Hospitals CEO James May encourages employees of Emanuel Hospital and Health Center in northeast Portland, OR, to remain with the hospital for at least five years through a home loan program that gives workers loans of up to $5,000. The homes must be near the hospital in a redevelopment area and have a purchase price of $65,000 or less. The program helps the hospital, the employees and the community, and 25 employees have used it to purchase homes near the hospital.

Cascade Health Partners has been formed by the A.W. Foote Memorial Hospital of Jackson, MI, the Jackson Physicians Alliance, and PMC Capital Inc of Nashville, TN. The hospital desired a contractual alliance with Jackson-area health maintenance organizations and the alliance wanted separate contracts. The agreement among the three partners has created trust and lessened the friction between the hospital and the doctors.

Hospitals needing to address ethics training issues can use the services of the Park Ridge Center for the Study of Health, Faith & Ethics. The center has been able to create separate ethics programs for hospital departments and can work with hospital clients to develop patient-centered policies that are adaptable. The center can also address ethics issues at the professional level.
