Kathleen Dracup, mentor extraordinaire
Article Abstract:
Dr. Kathleen Dracup, transformational leader in nursing, has had great influence, as a mentor, on the career of Debra K. Moser, DNSc, RN, Asst Professor, Ohio State University, College of Nursing, Columbus, Ohio. For someone trying to make the journey from staff nurse to successful advanced practice clinician or nurse scientist/academic Kathy Dracup was the ultimate teacher and guide, a mentor extraordinaire. She helped, among other things, by being willing to share stories of her less-than-triumphant moments at the perfect time.

Maximizing therapy in the advanced heart failure patient
Article Abstract:
Treatment for patients in heart failure may be most effective when patients and family members are taught how to prevent further heart damage. The initial injury to the heart caused by heart failure may be exacerbated by the body's neurohormonal response. Use of ACE inhibitor drugs along with digoxin and diuretics may prevent further damage. Patients and family members should be taught the importance of proper diet, exercise, compliance with drug therapy, and reducing risk factors.

Cardiac power output during transition from mechanical to spontaneous ventilation in canines
