Ask a nurse
Article Abstract:
Hospital reengineering is changing many nurses' jobs as well as resulting in many nurses' layoffs. Nurses went into their profession to perform patient care not to supervise nurses' aides. Many nurses who are providing care are taking care of very ill patients and do not have enough time to give them. Hospitals must consider more than financial rewards when implementing reengineering.

Group purchasing is boring
Article Abstract:
Hospital purchasing has undergone dramatic changes from the days when hospital administrators signed contracts for such items as boxes of cotton balls and soap which were cheap in those days. Rising prices over the years led to the advent of group purchasing, which enabled hospitals to pool their resources and demand lower prices for the items they purchase.
