A surefire merger
Article Abstract:
Goddard Memorial Hospital, located in a suburb of Boston, MA, agreed to merge with nearby Cardinal Cushing Hospital to form the Good Samaritan Medical Center. However, a basement fire made the newer Cushing hospital unusable. CEO Frank Larkin formed a crisis team that directed reconstruction and improvement of the Cushing site while temporarily using the Goddard building. The latter was sold to Olympus Healthcare Group Inc. as a nursing facility.

Why doctors don't trust you
Article Abstract:
Physicians and hospital administrators are often at odds with each other, and the market does not always support large-scale partnerships between physicians groups and hospitals. A deal between Good Samaritan Health System and 350 doctors fell apart after five years because the two groups could not work together. A discussion about the two cultures and examples of successful partnerships are presented.
