A 26-year-old woman with recurrent angina after a triple coronary-artery bypass graft
Article Abstract:
A 26-year-old woman was diagnosed with Takayasu's arteritis affecting her coronary arteries. Takayasu's arteritis is an inflammation of the arteries that usually affects arteries supplying blood to the arms and head. She was admitted to a hospital when she began experiencing chest pain on exertion. A stress test and coronary angiogram revealed narrowing of several coronary arteries. She received a triple bypass but was re-admitted approximately eight weeks after surgery with recurring chest pain. Angiography revealed that her grafts were partially blocked. She was initially diagnosed with a syndrome similar to lupus, but biopsy specimens of her aorta taken during her second operation had evidence of inflammatory infiltration by white blood cells. She was diagnosed with Takayasu's arteritis, which is suspected to involve an autoimmune or hypersensitive process.

A 46-year-old man with chest pain and coronary ostial stenosis
Article Abstract:
A 46-year-old man was admitted to a hospital with severe chest pain. Cardiac angiography revealed that his left main coronary artery was 95% blocked although he had no other signs of atherosclerosis. He had a history of a sexually transmitted disease. He received a coronary artery bypass and during the operation, his aorta was found to be thickened. Microscopic examination of tissue sections taken from the aorta suggested syphilis and a blood test confirmed the diagnosis. He was treated with penicillin G.
