A behavioural approach to obsessive compulsive disorder
Article Abstract:
Patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) fear the consequences of a situation. A behavioural approach to the treatment of OCD involves exposing patients to the objects of their fear, then discouraging or preventing them from undertaking their usual response to this fear. The use of this technique with a man who had a range of compulsive responses, including those related to fears of contamination and flooding, challenged the behavioural skills of the psychiatric nurse who treated him, but proved successful. Good motivation from the patient aided the therapy.

Music therapy for people with life-limiting illness
Article Abstract:
Music may provide a meaningful experience for people who are undergoing physically- and emotionally-draining palliative care. Nurse Theresa Foxglove has developed a music programme for hospice inpatients and day patients which includes listening to music, playing instruments, dance and meditation. She maintains that the positive factors in the programme include creativity, relaxation and enjoyment, and that music can be a means of reviving memories, which is an important part of coming to terms with the ending of life.
