Doubtful demons: Many people who are abused as children go on to have alcohol problems
Article Abstract:
Data on adults who were abused when children was gathered and it was found that misuse of alcohol was a survival strategy which was usually discarded when it was no longer required for such a purpose. Alcohol was found to be useful to keep traumatic memories at bay, giving control over one's own body, releasing physical inhibitions and reliving pain. The view of a genetic link between alcohol-using parents and the later misuse of alcohol by their children has not been proven.
