A haven for high-risk research opens
Article Abstract:
Janelia Farm is the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's (HHMI) new research campus in Ashburn, Virginia, that will promote pioneering studies and unique collaborations. The Institute will provide funding to select investigators across the US so as to give scientists a new home for pursuing studies that are difficult to approach in academia or industry because they require expertise from disparate areas, are too long in duration for standard funding mechanisms or are outside the current priorities of funding agencies.

Parkinson disease registry launched
Article Abstract:
The Parkinson registry may help researchers design epidemiological studies that could lead to a better knowledge of the causes and potential cures for Parkinson disease. A two-year pilot project with $500,000 in funds from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research and the National Institute of Environmental Health Service would lay the foundation for the registry.
