Antiretroviral therapy in resource-poor settings: Decreasing barriers to access and promoting adherence
Article Abstract:
The interventions to promote access to care and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) developed in reference to the specific context of poverty in rural Haiti are described. The low rate of treatment failure, indicated by few deaths and few patients needing to change to second-line ART, suggests that adherence to medical follow-up and antiretroviral medication is excellent and additional work is planned to focus on measuring the impact and cost of individual interventions on clinic attendance and adherence.

Modeling the impact of a partially effective HIV vaccine on HIV infection and death among women and infants in South Africa
Article Abstract:
A Markov model was developed for a study that examines the public health benefits and cost of a partially effective prophylactic HIV vaccine over 10 years in a population restricted to 15-year-old South African adolescent girls and future offspring. An important role is played by a partially effective HIV vaccine in HIV prevention in adolescents and infants in South Africa irrespective of other public policy implementations.
