A special brand of know-how
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association (AMA) successfully lobbied for a change in the text of federal health-care legislation that Congress passed in the summer of 1996. The AMA encouraged physicians to ask legislators to impose criminal penalties for fraud and abuse violations only in cases where doctors knowingly committed an offense. The AMA's effort worked. The association also successfully lobbied for the creation of medical savings accounts through the legislation.
