A year on the learning curve
Article Abstract:
UKCC communications manager John Knape reveals that the number of calls to the UKCC PREP helpline has scarcely fallen in the year since the UKCC launched its standards for post-registration practice and education. He concedes that there are some problems but feels that negative perceptions of PREP have disappeared. Unison branch secretary Gail Jones feels that PREP is a good thing but is dismayed by some practitioners' failure to understand what they have to do and when. Tony Lingiah explains that registered nursing staff at Broadmoor Special Hospital have reacted very positively to PREP.

A secret procedure?
Article Abstract:
Using the bodies of newly-dead patients to teach nurses the technique of intubation raises serious ethical and moral questions. The practice generally occurs in secret and without the consent of relatives. The practice of using dead bodies to teach intubation should only occur if the body has severe injuries to the head, face or neck and never on an undamaged body, according to guidelines issued by British Medical Assn and the RCN.
