Alzheimer's drug 'doubles' decline
Article Abstract:
Research conclude that quetiapine, a drug used to treat agitation in patients with Alzheimer's disease, should be used as an alternative to risperidone and olanzapine in people with dementia. A study that looked at the effect of quetiapine and rivastigmine on patients revealed that those taking quetiapine showed no lessening of agitation after a period of six and 26 weeks of taking the drug and experienced a doubling in the rate of cognitive decline compared with the patients on placebo.
