Food intake, energy balance and body weight control
Article Abstract:
Obesity is described as a long term energy imbalance in which the energy intake is greater than energy usage. Studies show that there are several factors, both nutritional and non-nutritional food related, which cause obesity. These factors are low fat/high carbohydrate ratio in food intake, higher protein and fiber intake, an increase in polyunsaturated fat intake, the use of food-related sympathomimetic compounds, such as capsaicin, in the diet, and an increase in alcohol and caffeine intake. The effects of these factors and some proposed strategies to prevent obesity are discussed.

Risk factors for hypertension in obese women. The role of weight cycling
Article Abstract:
The combined exposure of central-type obesity and weight cycling significantly increases the risk of hypertension in obese women. In the absence of important cardiovascular risk factors such as smoking habits, and adjusting for body mass index, age, lifestyle parameters and menstrual history, it was found that the risk of hypertension greatly rises with larger waist-to-hip ratio and with a positive history of weight cycling. It was established that waist-to-hip ratio is the most significant and consistent factor connected with the hypertensive risk.
