Big boost or Big Brother?
Article Abstract:
Medical guidelines are considered an effective method to inform physicians about current medical practices and to reduce variation among physicians' treatments. Many software programs integrate medical guidelines with patient medical records so that physicians and insurers can track outcomes and physician practice profiles. However, automated medical guidelines could pose a threat to patient safety if guidelines are designed for cost control rather than quality treatment.

Feds: prescribe pot, face prosecution
Article Abstract:
Physicians are calling for more research on the efficacy of medical marijuana following a warning that doctors who prescribe the drug could face strict penalties and possible criminal prosecution. Marijuana has been used by some doctors to relieve the symptoms of cancer, multiple sclerosis and AIDS. However, little research has been conducted on the medical benefits of the drug since the early 1970s.
