Brighton peers
Article Abstract:
The experiences of student nurse Lisa Wray and her preceptor Alison McMaster in a community mental health team highlight some of the aspects of modern nursing. Competition to get a place working with the team is fierce, and communication between tutors and the individuals involved in the training placement is not good. The student has to complete an analysis of skills used and developed during the placement. McMaster describes one patient they visit. He has an obsessive-compulsive disorder and, if anyone disturbs his collection of rubbish from the street, he can become violent.
