Case study shows mediation in a licensure dispute
Article Abstract:
Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods such as arbitration and mediation are being applied more frequently to the health care field as a way to avoid costly and time consuming legal battles. A case study from the book "Renegotiating Health Care: Resolving Conflict to Build Collaboration" presents the ADR session between Mrs. Long and Dr. Tuckerman. After her mother died of lung cancer Mrs. Long asked the state licensing board to revoke Dr. Tuckerman's license.

How the licensure process will evolve
Article Abstract:
The licensure of dentists may change, but many patients still expect dentists to meet certain standards of clinical competence. This may require dentists to periodically be re-certified. National board exams will no longer focus on facts but on clinical decision-making skills. Many states now accept the results of regional dental examination services. This will benefit dentists who may want to relocate to another state.
