Article Abstract:
Deaths and injuries from automobile, agricultural, and occupational accidents in developing countries cost the nations about 1.5% of their gross national product in lost productivity. Two studies on such injuries, one from South Africa and one in Zimbabwe, are discussed.

Accidents in the developing world
Article Abstract:
The number of accidental deaths in developing countries increases each year because new technology such as farming machines and automobiles causes injuries. Education, research, legislation and public awareness are discussed in relation to safety standards.

Victims of war
Article Abstract:
Civilians die from lack of food, contaminated water and lack of access to regular medical treatments as well as from direct violence in war. Other public health problems are causes by population movements and psychological problems stemming from war.
