Changing your mind
Article Abstract:
Nursing is a stressful job, and the key to managing stress lies in detachment. Stress can be defined in terms of life-event scales or life-change units, but is only determined by how people respond to it. Preoccupation with emotional upset involves surges in hormones such as adrenaline and cortisone, whenever it appears in the mind, causing a strain on the immune and cardiovascular function. Stress can be successfully managed by relaxation techniques, as they allow the body to recover and regain its natural state.

Article Abstract:
Maladaptive and adaptive coping styles must be determined when dealing with stress. Maladaptive coping styles do not offer appropriate methods for responding to change, whereas adaptive strategies offer ways of coping by detachment and reason. The detachment strategy means being able to regard oneself as independent of an event, viewing it as something separate.
