Chorioamnionitis as a Risk Factor for Cerebral Palsy: A Meta-analysis
Article Abstract:
Chorioamnionitis appears to be a risk factor for cerebral palsy and cystic periventricular leukomalacia, which is a precursor of cerebral palsy. This was the conclusion of researchers who reviewed 26 studies of the association between chorioamnionitis and these diseases in both premature and term babies. Chorioamnionitis is an inflammation of the fetal membranes.

Chorioamnionitis and cerebral palsy in term and near-term infants
Article Abstract:
About 11% of all cerebral palsy cases may be caused by chorioamnionitis, according to a study of 327 babies. This could explain why cerebral palsy can occur even in a pregnancy that lasts 39 weeks. Chorioamnionitis is an inflammation of the placenta.
