Article Abstract:
Computer-based training (CBT) is an efficient and cost-effective solution to problems most managers encounter in implementing their safety programs for the work environment. The method is being endorsed by more managers due ot the perceived inefficiency of traditional approaches which rely on videos or talks. CBT also addresses the common problem of geography through new technologies such as Intranets and CD-ROMs. The approach also tends to challenge employees while teaching them safety skills through interactive participation.

Knowledge of ways of handling mercury safely proves to be vital in preventing harmful effects associated with mercury exposure, such as tremors, kidney damage and emotional instability. Such measures include keeping of instrument containing mercury in an enameled or plastic pan to prevent cleaning difficulties in times of spillage. Wearing of latex or impenetrable gloves, as well as the use of eye protectors also provide protection from mercury exposure.
