Clinical, not criminal
Article Abstract:
Prosecuting physicians and surgeons on criminal charges for mistakes in medical decision-making sends the wrong message to physicians: it encourages physicians to accept only the safest patients. Instead of prosecuting physicians such as Dr Wolfgang Schug, authorities should work with the American Medical Assn to encourage patient safety through the review of medical decisions and the establishment of guidelines in health care organizations.
