Creating a community-based memory clinic for older people

Article Abstract:

The development of a multi-disciplinary, nurse-led memory clinic is described, which has grown out of research activity to become an important component of a community service for older people with dementia and other mental health problems. A detailed study of interaction between the clinic and community mental health team, as practised in this model of care, is presented.

The evidence on perceptions of pain in older people

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that older people feel less pain than younger people and refutes it is presented. It can be concluded that older people perceive pain differently from people in other age groups, however, the intensity of the individual's pain may be just as great which could be due to the fact that older people's ability to describe their pain is impaired.

Developing aphasia-friendly services for stroke survivors

Article Abstract:

The structured and reliable information is unavailable for the patients who have suffered from stroke, their families and caretakers, while whatever information available is difficult to understand. A summary of the multidisciplinary education programme developed by a stroke unit to address the lack of information is presented.
