Critics rain on MMV parade

Some critics of the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) say pharmaceutical companies will receive public funds to develop malaria vaccines. MMV is a public venture capital fund sponsored by the WHO, the World Bank, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations, and several national governments and philanthropic foundations.

Research ethics -- no easy fix ahead
Article Abstract:
Ethicists, patients' representatives and researchers have been unable to agree on changes to the Declaration of Helsinki. The declaration was produced to protect the rights of human volunteers in research studies. But it states that all volunteers should receive the best treatment and the best treatment may be too expensive for developing countries.

UK speculated to permit stem cell research
Article Abstract:
The British government will approve using fetal cells in stem cell research, according to information leaked to a newspaper. The government has not yet publicly announced its decision based on an expert panel's recommendation, but most scientists believe it will approve the research.
