Delegates seek safeguards against errors being called fraud
Article Abstract:
The House of Delegates of the American Medical Assn (AMA) has indicated that it wants the federal government to make a distinction between simple coding errors and Medicare fraud. However, the Clinton administration has been working to repeal the standard and penalties which draw this distinction. The AMA has been asked by the House of Delegates to take steps in protecting physicians from harsher penalties in innocent wrongdoing.

Easing antitrust guidelines?
Article Abstract:
The Federal Trade Commission and Justice Department are investigating claims that antitrust guidelines for doctor networks are unfair to doctors. The guidelines, which were last updated in 1994, are based on assumptions that physicians form networks to fix prices and create market clout. The American Medical Association, members of Congress and physician groups claim that the guidelines are deterring market competition.
