Do staff follow guidelines for dealing with MRSA?
Article Abstract:
Methicillin was introduced as an anti-staphyloccal agent in the 1960s and there have been frequent reports of resistance to it since then, and outbreaks of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus still occur regularly throughout the world. MRSA colonises a patient's skin, particularly older patients in both hospital and the community. The spread of MRSA is associated with the use of broad spectrum antibiotics and lack of adequate infection-control procedures. Intravenous vancomycin can effectively treat MRSA.

Keeping MRSA in perspective: understanding the history and epidemiology of MRSA is important in helping to prevent its spread
Article Abstract:
There is concern amongst health care workers and the public following the recent publicity about methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The emergence of highly antibiotic-resistant hospital pathogens is due to extensive use of antibiotic therapy, exacerbated by the indiscriminate use of antibiotics. Control should concentrate on limiting spread through detection, isolation and treatment.
