Effect of the Vaccines for Children program on inner-city neighborhood physicians
Article Abstract:
The Vaccines for Children (VFC) program may be effective in increasing the rate of childhood vaccination in inner cities. VFC is a federal program implemented in 1994 that provides free vaccines to physicians to facilitate vaccination of underimmunized children. Researchers compared the vaccination status of children attending 23 New York City, NY physicians' offices before and after VFC. Vaccination coverage increased from 18% to 42%, and the number of well-child visits increased after VFC. In addition to increasing vaccination rates, VFC also may have improved overall medical care.

Changes in Clinic Vaccination Coverage After Institution of Measurement and Feedback in 4 States and 2 Cities
Article Abstract:
A program similar to Georgia's AFIX program can increase the number of children who are vaccinated. AFIX stands for assessment of clinic vaccination coverage, feedback of the information to the clinic, incentives to clinics, and exchange of information among clinics. In a nationwide survey of clinics that implemented the AFIX program, the percentage of children who were offered vaccination increased about five percentage points per year on average. The cost of the program was about $50,000 a year.
