Express yourselves: Research shows that nurses often allow medical staff to make decisions for them
Article Abstract:
Researchers have found that nurses were angry and disillusioned when invasive treatments were undertaken on patients who would have no benefit. Many hospitals have do-not-resuscitate (DNR) directives, and it is suggested that resuscitation requires informed consent. Nurses often allow medical staff to make decisions for them and they should be encouraged to develop ways of making their feelings and those of the patient known. Resuscitation should be therapeutically justified, and compensate for any suffering from prolonging life.

Safety in numbers
Article Abstract:
The Be Safe campaign devised jointly by the UKCC and Unison aims to encourage nurses to become more confident and to express their views clearly to managers. Unison believes that it is not acceptable that nurses merely learn to adapt to inadequate staffing levels, rather than demanding that managers take action on this issue. The union wishes to ensure that nurses have the tools they require for identifying their worries about unsafe practices.
