Endothelin-B receptor activation triggers an endogenous analgesic cascade at sites of peripheral injury
Article Abstract:
A new endogenous analgesic circuit, in which Endothelin-B receptor activation induces the release of beta-endorphin from keratinocytes and the activation of G-protein-coupled inwardly rectifying potassium channels linked to opioid receptors on nociceptors are mentioned. Results indicate the existence of an intrinsic feedback mechanism to control peripheral pain in skin, and establish keratinocytes as an ET sub B receptor-operated opioid pool.

Strategies to determine the biological function of microRNAs
Article Abstract:
Several technological advances including bioinformatic prediction algorithms, reporter assays, in situ hybridizations, overexpression and silencing technologies are developed to deduce microRNA (miRNA) function. Existing and future technologies to study miRNA function in mammals, their limitations and relevance to modern medicine and potential as therapeutic targets for small-molecule inhibitors are discussed.

Apoliprotein M is required for prebeta-HDL formation and cholesterol efflux to HDL and protects against atherosclerosis
Article Abstract:
Mice deficient in apoliprotein M (apoM), a component of the high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) particle accumulated cholesterol in large HDL particles while the conversion of HDL to prebeta-HDL is impaired. The result provides evidence that apoM, by influencing prebeta-HDL formation, is an important regulator of HDL metabolism, and thereby modulates cholesterol efflux and susceptibility to atherosclerosis.
